Ferro Alloys

Ferrochrome (FeCr) is an alloy of Chromium and Iron containing between 60% and 70% Chrome. The Producer of stainless steel & tool steel are the largest consumer of ferrochrome. It is chromium that confers upon stainless steel its remarkable corrosion & wear resistance.

Ferro Manganese is an alloy of Manganese and Iron containing between 65% and 80% Manganese.  Manganese removes oxygen and sulfur when iron ore (an iron and oxygen compound) is converted into iron.

Aluminium finds its use as one of the most commonly & preferred Deoxidizer in Steel making.
With density of Ferro Aluminium estimated close to 4.5g/cm3 as compared to that of Liquid Steel (7 g/cm3 ), it dissolves & penetrates to the bottom of ladle or furnace thereby giving complete recovery & uniform treatment.

Ferro Titanium is used as a Cleansing Agent in Production of Steel as its highly reactive with Sulphur, Carbon, Oxygen & Nitrogen. Its also used for deoxidizing, desulfurization and denitrification.

Ferro Molybdenum is added to an alloy due to its hardening properties that make steel extremely strong and at the same time weldable. Ferro Molybdenum also helps in increasing the Corrosion resistance. The largest practical applications of Ferro Molybdenum are its use in ferrous alloys, and depending on the molybdenum content range, it is suited for machine tools and equipment, military hardware, refinery tubing, load-bearing parts and rotary drills.

Ferro Vanadium, when added to an alloy, gives stability against alkalis as well as sulphuric and hydrochloric acids. Ferro Vanadium also helps in avoiding of Corrosion to Steel. It also helps in increasing of Tensile Strenght of Steel, Casting & Welding Electrodes.

Low Carbon Ferro Chrome is added to steel where in the percentage of Chromium has to be adjusted without affecting the levels of Carbon. Low Carbon Ferro Chrome Powder is used in several applications such as Welding Electrodes & Stick Electrodes.

Selection of the best Inoculation of elements and practice is a critical challenge to achieve the required cast metal structure and matrix.

Barium-containing inoculants are amongst the most popular as, in combination with certain elements, they are generally suited both for the inoculation of gray and ductile iron.

The most popular inoculants today contain Al, BA, Ca, Sr and Zr.

Suitable for most applications, and specially for applications involving long holding periods, the combination of Calcium and Barium give most efficient chill control and minimum amounts of slag

Strontium inoculant is highly recommended for gray iron casting as it is likely to result in the minimum chill, especially in thin wall sections castings

FERRO SILICON MAGNESIUM – NODULISERS

Modularising, is magnesium treatment of cast iron, to impart soundness in microstructure and make castings more reliable in as-cast conditions. Homogeneity and lesser segregation can be achieved if the nodularisers are of very good quality & also contribute towards desulphurizing and deoxidizing of the liquid iron.
